Stunning use of Alloy mosaics in Singapore
House of Mosaics introduces Australian Alloy mosaics exclusively in the UK. Solid metal mosaics in stainless steel, copper, brass, titanium and raw steel that are found in high end hotels, restaurants, office and bars around the world as well as in the homes of celebrities such as film director Steven Spielberg, singer Celine Dion and ‘Sex in the City’ actress KristinDavis.
Created from a single sheet of metal and designed to last a lifetime, Alloy mosaics are only cast from the highest quality metals available and are suited for a wide spectrum of interior styles-from minimalist to those of Byzantine splendour.
Top design guru Karim Rashid has used them to create award winning interiors in places like the Semiramis Hotel, Athens, and he now creates exclusive designs and shapes just for Alloy.
Simon Powell, Managing Director of House of Mosaics says ‘ we focus on giving our customers the very latest and innovative mosaics. That’s what we have built our reputation on. These Alloy mosaics are stunning and we expect considerable interest in them from leading UK interior designers”

Countrywide Announce Record Half Year Results
June 13, 2009
Despite the tough economic conditions, Countrywide, the UKs leading supplier to the rural community, is on course for record profits this year.
That was the upbeat message to shareholders from Chairman, Nigel Hall on reporting Countrywide’s strong half-year performance across all businesses. For the first time in its history they generated an operating profit in the first half of the financial year.
A retail like for like sales increase of over six per cent and an improved margin performance was boosted by a store refurbishment programme and the opening of a new store in Waterlooville, Hampshire. The policy of improving the store estate and growth through new store openings and acquisition continues into the second half of the year.
The group’s agricultural business responded well to volatile commodity prices by improving profitability and the arable business also recorded an excellent first six month with sales and margins in seed, crop protection and fertiliser all performing strongly.
The acquisition of Cotswold Fuels, full ownership of its LPG energy business and the cold weather boosted sales in the Energy business despite customers reacting cautiously to global price volatility. The Energy business is performing well ahead of expectations and further growth is anticipated.
“We expect the company’s improved performance to be maintained in the second half of the year, and that full year operating profit will be substantially ahead of that reported last year,” explained Mr Hall.
“Market conditions remain highly volatile for all three of our businesses but our growth strategy continues to be effective,” he said.
Rude Health rants at Real Food are a roaring success
June 6, 2009
The Real Food Festival was a fabulous event. Filling London’s Earls Court with chocolate, cheese and chutney galore, it was a food-lovers dreamland. But surrounded by 400 other small producers Rude Health was determined to stand out. And itdid, even knocking Petal the water buffalo off centre stage (sorry Petal!), as eminent epicureans and celebrated chefs stepped up to the microphone and ranted on our Speakers’ Corner podium.
Guest ranter, rants...
As does Rude Health's Nick
In fact The Guardian enjoyed Rude Health’s rants even more than the festival’s own renowned debates (read more at www.guardian.co.uk). Rude Health’s relentless ranter Nick kicked it all off with a rant about ‘Fibre’ and even relinquished the podium without the need for our cattle prong. Next saw author-blogger extraordinaire Simon Majumdar rile against the fat chip and slow food crusader Wendy Fogarty stress how we are eating the planet. Perhaps most controversial was food writer Tim Hayward’s attack on Elizabeth David, who he accused of distracting British people from the joys of our own cuisine with her alluring Mediterranean dishes. You can listen to all of the guest rants at www.rudehealth.com
Lawrence forges ahead with Clearaway acquisition
June 6, 2009
Lawrence Recycling and Waste Management , Worcestershire’s largest waste disposal and recycling company, announces its acquisition of Clearaway, a waste disposal company, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition will reduce the amount of the region’s waste going to landfill significantly and will improve recycling and recovery rates. Waste from Clearaway’s 2,500 wheelie bins, throughout Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, will now go directly to Forge Recycling - Lawrence’s modern facility in Kidderminster, where co-mingled dry waste can be separated, recycled, and a far greater amount diverted from landfill.
David Lawrence, managing director, Lawrence Recycling and Waste Management, says: “Clearaway provides us with the opportunity to develop our trade waste collection services and provide customers with a higher level of service and compliance, while managing pre-treatment legislation and corporate social responsibility concerns.”
John Eden who has run the Clearaway company for 25 years, founded by his late father Charles Eden over 57 years ago, will continue as a consultant at Lawrence’s. Eden says: “Merging with Lawrence Recycling and Waste Management means job security for my employees and enhanced services with commitment to recycling and recovery of waste for my customers.
